In our line of work, we all too often see instances of inequity, injustice and rights denied. That’s why we are committed to using the power of law to create a better future for People, Planet, Clients and Communities.

We have a huge amount of in-house expertise. We are one of the few UK law firms to have a dedicated Clean Energy, Waste and Sustainability practice, a team of around 90 lawyers helping businesses across all sectors lower their greenhouse gas emissions, decarbonise, and work towards net zero. We have a Natural Capital team and numerous social, governance and not-for-profit specialists too – specialists on hand to ensure Freeths Business is a Responsible Business.

Many of our people offer their time and energy for free, taking part in pro bono work such as representing sub postmasters in their case against the Post Office, supporting local charities and advancing equality across the legal sector. We’re proud to be recognised as a law firm where social mobility is supported and encouraged.

We are also extremely proud of featuring in the Legal 500 Green Guide since its inception and have achieved not only Green Guide accreditation for 2025, but 3 Freeths lawyers have been named Green Ambassadors in this year’s Legal 500 Green Guide, highlighting the firm as a leader in sustainability practice. Formerly focussed on firm contributions, The Green Guide’s new research now recognises some of the top legal professionals championing sustainability in major regions and markets across the world.

Added to that is our recent B Corp certification. As the largest law firm in the UK to achieve this mark of excellence, in recognition of our high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and 
accountability, it shows we are on the right path. 

Our Responsible Business Report showcases just some of the initiatives that helped us get there and helped us win Law Firm of the Year in 2024.

Internally, our approach to ESG begins at the highest level of our management evidencing the whole firm commitment to Responsible Business.

We have had an ESG Committee since May 2021 and its importance to our firm is underlined by the fact that it reports directly to the Board and is made up of representatives from the Management Board, HR and senior lawyers.
