Sheffield Employment and HR Forum: Labour’s new deal for working people - What this means for your organisation

Thank you to all of those who have attended our workshops so far during 2024. We hope that you have found them as enjoyable as we have.

Since our last workshop, you may have heard that things have changed slightly in the UK, with the election of a new Labour Government. In the run up to the election, Labour pledged to introduce a “new deal for working people” with sweeping changes to employment law within 100 days of holding power. A bold promise, but what does this actually mean for your organisation?

During our next workshop, Tom Draper, Lee Williams and Adele Coupland will explore the likely impact of the new Government on employment law and HR, including the following potential developments:

  • Granting unfair dismissal rights to employees with less than two years’ service.
  • Overhauling the law on employment status and extending employment rights to other groups.
  • Banning “exploitative” zero hours / causal contracts.
  • Reforming the Employment Tribunal process, including extending the deadline to bring certain claims.
  • Increasing the NMW and a significant pay rise for young workers.
  • Any key events which take place between the date of this invite and the workshop!

The workshop will be taking place at the Freeths Sheffield offices, on 19th September 2024 between 9:00 and 10:30am, please arrive from 8:30 for a 9am start.

The workshop is intended to be informal and interactive, with attendees able to learn from each other as well as ask questions of our legal experts.

As usual, the workshop is free to attend and breakfast will be provided.

We expect this to be a very popular event, so please be quick to confirm your place!

We look forward to seeing you there!
