Bioenergy – the Current Market and Future Opportunities

The Government has promised to publish a new Biomass Strategy in 2022, setting out the results of the current call for evidence on the availability of sustainable biomass in the UK and how this resource could be best utilised across the economy to help achieve our net zero target. Additionally, the Energy White Paper contained ambitious plans for the decarbonisation of heat, including a commitment to increase the proportion of biomethane in the gas grid by supporting the continued deployment of anaerobic digestion plants via the new Green Gas Support Scheme.

The latest in our series of Energy, Waste & Sustainability webinars will look at:

  • What do we mean by ‘bioenergy’ and what role does biomass play?
  • What is the Green Gas Support Scheme and how does it work?
  • How do you translate biogas into revenue?
  • What are the current and future opportunities in the bioenergy market?
  • What are the investment opportunities and when is the best time to invest?
  • How is the bioenergy feedstock market developing

Crucially, our speakers will reveal the challenges as well as the opportunities in this increasingly important market:

  • Ricky Thomas, is Cowper Kreston’s waste and recycling expert and has worked in corporate finance across the waste management industry including working on projects with Biffa’s anaerobic digesters (AD) and wider energy division. Since returning to practice he has worked with funders and developers in relation to a number of advanced thermal treatment projects in various stages of development / re-development.
  • Sam Smith, UK Managing Director & Global Head of Project Management with Anaergia Inc. With over 10 years’ experience on large-scale, varied, engineering & construction projects, Sam is a bioenergy facility manager with practical understanding to back-up his academic credentials.
