Representation Changes at the UKIPO

From 1 January 2021 all applications for trade marks, registered designs and patents, or new proceedings before the UKIPO must have a UK or Channel Islands address for service. In practice, this means the representative must have a UK or Channel Islands address, or if an applicant in person your address must be based in one of those territories.

Pending EU applications

If you had pending applications for EU trade marks or registered Community designs on 1 January 2021 then you will have 9 months (30 September 2021) to file a corresponding UK application that can claim the same filing date as the EU application (and any earlier applicable priority date claimed by the EU right). Again new applications will require a representative with a UK or Channel Islands address.
