Group Action Case against Mr Hay: A Step Towards Accountability

In early 2020 investigations were commenced by NHS England and University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. The treatment under initial investigation related to major surgical procedures performed between 2015 – 2018 at Derby Royal Hospital by Mr Daniel Hay, Consultant and Surgeon in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The initial investigation found that some women had suffered “unnecessary harm”.

Since that time, Freeths have been representing over 60 former patients of Mr Hay in a Group Action and settled over 20 of these cases.

Recent developments

Mr. Hay has been interviewed under caution by the police as part of the ongoing criminal investigation. This formal interview process involves informing the suspect of their right to remain silent and that anything they say can be used as evidence. The initial interviews focused on Mr. Hay's training, medical knowledge, and his practice. Further interviews are expected due to the extensive material that needs to be covered.
