National law firm Freeths has advised Mole Valley District Council (MVDC) on a new joint venture partnership with Kier Property Developments Limited as part of its Transform Leatherhead regeneration vision for the locality.

Freeths have been acting for MVDC for over two years on the scheme which aims to reinvent Leatherhead’s town centre, ensuring a friendly, vibrant and lively modern market town where people of all ages can shop, eat, relax and have fun.

This deal will see the delivery of a redevelopment and rejuvenation of the Swan Centre, a shopping centre in the heart of Leatherhead. The aim is to develop a thriving shopping and leisure destination for the local community. Additionally, this initiative includes a residential led mixed use development of Bull Hill to create much needed housing in the form of new apartments, a new community space, public open space, a hotel, public car parking and office space.

The Freeths legal team was led by Real Estate Partner Clive Pearce, supported by Real Estate Partner Alice Dockar, Commercial Partner Nathan Holden, Finance Managing Associate Gary Richardson and Real Estate Senior Associate Charles Smith.

Commenting on the transaction, Clive said: “It’s been really exciting working on this transaction with our long-standing client Mole Valley District Council, and this recent joint venture means significant progress in achieving the desired end result for the Council and its stakeholders.”

“The deal has not only strengthened our client relationship, it also draws upon our extensive sector capabilities. We look forward to seeing the next stage of development.”

The new partnership will now look to begin the first phase of public engagement and will identify and co-ordinate engagement with residents, businesses, and visitors to the town.
