Freeths advises on acquisition of luxury care home
National law firm Freeths has advised England’s largest not-for-profit provider of care and housing for older people Anchor on the acquisition of a brand new luxury care home in Skipton, North Yorkshire, from Hadrian Healthcare Limited.
The Mill House in Sackville Street is a purpose-built 86-bed care home developed on the historic site of a former silk mill. Each bedroom comes with an en-suite wet room, while facilities include a roof terrace, landscaped gardens and an onsite café. There are also eight residential care apartments in the adjoining historic Mill Lodge.
The development has recently won Development of the Year (Commercial) in the Premier Guarantee Excellence Awards 2023.
Sarah Moore and Thomas Golding led the Freeths Care Team on the transaction, advising on all aspects including real estate, construction, corporate and banking.
Sarah Moore, Partner, said: “We are delighted to have assisted Anchor on the acquisition of what can only be described as an incredible, quality care home in Skipton. I was lucky enough to visit the care home and it is outstanding. The attention to detail that has gone into every element of the design, construction and finishings is exceptional. "Having worked with Anchor for a number of years now, including on their previous acquisition of homes from Hadrian in 2019, as a team, we are delighted to be part of Anchor’s aspirations to provide more homes where people love living in later life.”
Jo Twigg, Head of M&A at Anchor, added: “We have worked with the Freeths Care Team for several years and during that time have built a great rapport and relationship. Their knowledge of the care sector is second to none and the way they offer commercial, pragmatic advice ensures that our transactions run like clockwork.”
