About Alex
Alex is dually qualified as a tax solicitor and chartered tax advisor.
Alex advises on corporate and personal tax matters, with a particular specialism in corporate restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, demergers, exit planning and EMI share plans. His focus is on structuring transactions to achieve their commercial goals in a tax efficient manner.
Alex is also experienced in employment tax issues, including employment related securities issues, the employment status of workers for tax purposes and the application of “IR35”.
Alex advises a wide variety of clients ranging from individuals and start-ups to large corporate groups.

- Advised on the demerger of a £20M farming business, including the transfer of investment properties to new companies. Provided comprehensive tax advice to ensure tax neutrality
- Advised a district council on its £90M investment into the development of a hotel and car park through the use of an “income strip” funding structure. Conducted an in-depth analysis of the SDLT, VAT and chargeable gains issues that would affect the various stakeholders and proposed solutions to mitigate the risks
- Advised on the incorporation of a property holding partnership into a private limited company, including the transfer of a £5M property portfolio in a tax neutral way
- Advised an EV charging technology company on the raising of £2.4M through the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS), drafted the documentation and facilitated the investments
- Advised on the set-up of an investment fund that invests in SME growth companies and smaller EIS companies
- Advised a regional transport company on the employment status of its drivers for tax purposes and consequential changes to its engagement arrangements
