About Dan
Dan is a Chartered Trade Mark Attorney in the IP & Media team at Freeths.
Dan’s practice involves all aspects of UK, European and International trade mark protection and portfolio management, including strategy, clearance (for use and registration), filing, prosecution, IPO proceedings (opposition, applications for invalidity and revocations), renewal, register maintenance and watching. Dan also advises and assists clients with all aspects of global registered design protection and design portfolio management. Dan has worked with a wide range of clients across numerous sectors, including fashion, luxury goods, e-commerce, food and drink, entertainment and software/technology.
In addition, Dan also advises in relation to copyright issues (including advising on copyright clearance and infringement issues), and assists clients with IP exploitation (including assignments, licences, collaboration agreements, and photo/image release agreements).
Dan qualified as a Chartered Trade Mark Attorney in 2017. Prior to joining Freeths, Dan spent 12 years working in the IP/trade marks team at a national law firm.

- Assisting numerous clients in various sectors in registering and clearing brands, both nationally and internationally, and managing various global registered TM/Design portfolios
- Obtaining a favourable result for a world renowned animation production house in “bad faith” invalidation/cancellation proceedings before the EUIPO against a third party mark
- Drafting a collaboration agreement between a high fashion label and a European-based footwear manufacturer
- Assisting in negotiating and finalising a licensing and collaboration agreement with an artist for use of their works in a fashion show

- Assisting a client in taking action against a fraudulent third party owned domain (including having the website suspended via complaints to the Registrar and commencing formal domain dispute resolution proceedings)
- Assisting an online luxury goods auction platform in clearing and registering its brands in its key international commercial trading territories
- Obtaining a favourable settlement for a firm of architects, avoiding the commencement of UK trade mark infringement proceedings
- Providing IP support to assist a client in completing the purchase of an international cosmetics/skin care brand
