About Emily
Emily is a Director in the London office who specialises in managing construction and engineering disputes. Emily acts for developers, funders, contractors, sub-contractors, insurers and construction professionals (such as architects, engineers, project managers) on domestic and international projects.
Emily has experience of a wide range of dispute resolution procedure, including arbitration under ICC rules, adjudication, mediation, and litigation in the Technology and Construction Court.
Emily also provides risk management / disputes avoidance advice to clients and delivers workshops on this topic, as well as acting on the pre-action stages of potential disputes to manage escalation of issues for a client’s business. Emily provides pragmatic and commercial legal advice, driving a matter to a suitable resolution.
Emily has presented at various industry / client events (both in the UK and internationally, with a particular focus on Germany and Austria).
Emily previously completed a secondment at an insurance broker, managing construction and solicitor professional indemnity claims for insureds on projects in the UK and internationally. Prior to commencing her legal training, Emily worked for a power and automation technologies’ leader, on international oil and gas projects. Emily previously studied in Germany, where she obtained an LLM.
Emily is a co-author of “International Construction Disputes: A Practitioner’s Guide”, October 2022, by Hart Publishing.
Emily was previously listed as ‘Rising Star’ in consecutive years in The Legal 500 and in the ‘Hall of Fame’ as a leading associate.

- Acting for a subcontractor against a contractor regarding an anaerobic digestion plant under IChemE Yellow Book. Issues concerned performance tests, take over and acceptance of the plant.

Acting for a contractor against a purchaser in relation to two anaerobic digestion plants under IChemE Red Book. Issues concerned performance, delay and completion of the respective plants.

Acting for a contractor under a bespoke form of contract in relation to an adjudication concerning a heat network.

Acting in litigation in the TCC for one of the world's largest petrochemicals companies in relation to a key European processing plant, in proceedings against its maintenance contractor to recover monies owed.

Acting in a multi-million pound international arbitration (under ICC Rules) on behalf of a major civil contractor concerning the design and construction of a sewage treatment plant and pumping station in the Middle East.

Advising a chemical manufacturer in relation to dispute management issues arising from a complex and high value engineering, procurement and construction management contract.

Advising in an international arbitration (under ICC Rules) in relation to multi-million dollar reinstatement works under bespoke forms of contract for a major European plant.

Acting for a contractor in relation to several multi-million pound final account disputes with its subcontractors under bespoke contracts for a gas plant. Issues included changes to scope of work, sub-subcontractor claims (M & E, steelwork and cladding), various counterclaims in relation to additional work carried out, and health and safety issues.

Advising a manufacturer in relation to losses suffered following a plant shutdown as a result of a contractor’s negligence when working on the plant.

Acting for the owner of one of the tallest buildings in the UK, in relation to a complex multi-million pound design liability claim, concerning cladding, M & E and micro-climate issues.

Acting for a developer in relation to a £4m dispute concerning defective design and construction. The development comprised apartment and office blocks under a JCT contract. Issues included fire compartmentation, roof, cladding defects and a potential class action from tenants under the Defective Premises Act/Agreements for Lease.

Acting for an insolvent cladding subcontractor in a professional negligence claim funded by insurers against a cladding system supplier for apartment blocks.

Advising on various home warranties matters, including acting for a developer defending a claim by a home warranty provider. At the same time, bringing a claim in the TCC against the design team for the development, pursuant to appointments under ICE and RIBA forms.

Acting for a contractor in relation to the design and construction of student accommodation at a university under an amended form of NEC3 contract. Issues included EOTs, LADs, variations and a professional negligence claim.
