About Katie

Katie is over 8 years qualified, having initially specialised in litigation before retraining as a planning and environmental lawyer with Walker Morris, where she worked closely with Alison Ogley and Emma Conwell and joined Freeths in February 2024.

Katie’s practice involves contentious and non-contentious matters with a spread across planning and environmental matters.

Non-contentious environmental matters include environmental due diligence, advisory work such as advising on permitting, solar panels, wind farms, biodiversity net gain and drainage and waste issues. Contentious environmental matters include dealing with a prosecution for effluent discharge and assisting in a challenge to the Environmental Tribunal regarding a breach of the climate change agreement.  Katie also reviews Environmental Impact Assessments produced by consultants in a legal context.

Katie’s non-contentious planning practice ranges from advisory matters on a variety of issues including the scope of planning permission, permitted development and enforcement issues, as well as providing corporate support due diligence on multi-million-pound deals. In addition, Katie has contentious experience focusing on planning appeals (including public inquiries), judicial review, as well as experience in negotiating cost settlements following successful planning appeals and managing the formal costs recovery process through the courts.
